Baling floods: Environment Minister gets online brickbats over 'clean-up' video

PETALING JAYA: Comments about Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man online have not been complimentary after a video of the Environment and Water Minister helping to clean up after the floods in Baling, Kedah went viral.

The 21-second video was posted on TikTok by Tuan Ibrahim's special duties officer Mohd Zaidy Abdul Talib on Thursday (July 7), with a caption saying that the minister was helping to clear the mud at a flood victim's house.

"This is an example of a #ybpas (PAS elected representative) who can be emulated," read the caption.

However, while some praised the minister, others were more sceptical, saying that this meant a general election was coming soon.

"A minister has gone down to the ground to do work. This is one of the signs that the GE is coming. After GE, you won't see the minister doing work.

"The same promises will also be given," quipped one user on TikTok.

Another user said the minister's boots should be made to look dirty first to make it look like he was actually working.

Several others commented "wayang (acting)", while one user added "Best male actor."

On Monday, several villages in Baling were hit with floods and a water surge phenomenon.

The floods and water surge phenomenon affected 12 villages there – Kampung Iboi, Kampung Lata Celak, Kampung Padang Empang, Kampung Bukit Iboi, Kampung Masjid Iboi, Kampung Bendang Padang, Kampung Bendang Bechah, Kampung Tok Saba, Kampung Hangus, Kampung Bukit Tinggi, Kampung Pisang Clinic and Kampung Sadik.
