Malaysian Family Sales programme to be intensified

PUTRAJAYA: A large-scale and comprehensive Malaysian Family Sales with improved methods will be held nationwide in a bid to help the people reduce the cost of living due to rising prices of goods.

Special Task Force on Jihad Against Inflation chairman Tan Sri Annuar Musa said more premises and items would be featured in the programme to be organised in state and parliamentary constituencies in three weeks' time.

"It will involve the cooperation of selected premises, supermarkets and shops and not limited to certain items that are sold at cheaper prices.

"They will list down other items that can be sold at a lower price and as a result, more retail area for the programme can be created nationwide,” he told a press conference after chairing the special task force's meeting here on Thursday (July 7).

Annuar, who is also Communications and Multimedia Minister, said the special task force had instructed the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry to provide details for the large-scale programme including a plan on how it would be implemented.

He said the meeting also decided to fully utilise the RM100mil allocation in order to make the programme a success, compared to RM12mil spent so far.

In the meantime, he hoped the sales programme that would be re-launched could be held every week for a few months at selected premises to provide more opportunities for consumers to save more.

The Malaysian Family Sales was launched on Dec 2 last year as part of the government's effort to offer necessities at 20% cheaper than the market price and in turn, lessen the cost of living burden faced by the people.

Annuar said the special task force would continue to identify methods and opportunities to control the prices of goods as well as measures to bring them down. - Bernama
