MELAKA: Social media was abuzz with videos and images of a waterspout at Pulau Besar near here.
The phenomenon was spotted at about 2pm on Wednesday (July 6).
The waterspout occurred as the state was experiencing drizzle in the morning.
From the videos and images which had since gone viral, the waterspout was seen heading towards the Straits of Melaka.
No damages were reported on the island.
Razali Samah, 64, said the waterspout was visible from the mainland.
“It lasted several minutes,” he said.
A waterspout is a column of rotating, cloud-filled wind. It descends from a cumulus cloud to an ocean or a lake.
Waterspouts are similar to tornadoes, but are usually smaller and less intense.
