Flight ticket discounts now available to boost domestic airline industry

Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Skuhri.

BANGI: In an effort to invigorate domestic tourism in line with the transition to the endemic phase, the Tourism Recovery Plan 2022 for the Air Transport cluster has been launched here on Friday (July 1).

The event, which is part of the Tourism Recovery Plan 2022, is a continuation of the Economic Stimulus Package (PRE 1.0), launched by Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Skuhri.

The plan is one of the initiatives under the Tourism Industry Rehabilitation Plan, which involves channelling incentives to Malaysians in the form of discounts, vouchers and rebates under the Air Transport Cluster.

An estimated 45,879 people in Malaysia have the opportunity to redeem e-vouchers worth RM25 to RM100 through the purchase of flight tickets online involving five airlines from July 1 to Dec 31, 2022.

The five airlines involved are Malaysia Airlines, AirAsia, Batik Air (Malindo Air), Firefly and MASwings where ticket purchases can be made either through airlines' apps or websites.

Malaysia Airlines (MAS) will be promoting a RM100 e-voucher for 10,000 users while Firefly and Batik Air respectively are offering RM50 e-vouchers to 4,000 passengers.

As many as 4,000 MASwings users can redeem RM25 e-vouchers.

Travellers on MAS, Firefly, Batik Air and MASwings can only make one redemption.

However, Malaysians can make RM50 e-voucher redemptions up to three times involving one-way or two-way AirAsia flights, targeted at 23,879 passengers.

Redemption of e-vouchers offered by all airlines is limited to the domestic aviation sector only.

Nancy Shukri said the initiative was aimed at attracting public interest, especially from Malaysians, to continue booking air tickets at a special discounted price.

"Strategic cooperation established by Tourism Malaysia together with these airlines are targeted to stimulate returns for the recovery of the tourism industry thus helping to stimulate the economy," she said.

She added that RM2.7mil worth of ticket sales were expected from this cluster.

Other clusters under the recovery include Land Transport, Tourism Association, Special Interest Tourism and Accommodation.
