Dr Wee, UN general assembly president discuss future of transport, road safety

PETALING JAYA: The Transport Minister made a courtesy call on United Nations general assembly president Abdulla Shahid in New York.

Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong is in the United States to attend the two-day forum on global road safety.

In a Facebook post, Dr Wee said he had the opportunity to exchange views on the future of transport and road safety.

Dr Wee and Abdulla also discussed the development of the micro-mobility and electric vehicle (EV) industry.

"I said that Malaysia welcomes more partners for collaboration and mutually beneficial development to chart the way forward for our latent potential in these industries.

"We also discussed efforts to create better awareness for road safety and reducing fatalities as well as developing infrastructure for new modes of travel," he said.

Dr Wee also congratulated Abdulla on the successful high-level meeting of the UN on global road safety.
