Woman fined RM1,500 for sex work in Sibu


SIBU: A woman has been fined RM1,500 in default of two weeks' jail by the Magistrate's Court on Wednesday (June 29) for prostitution.

The accused, Siti Hadijah Osman, 28, from Sarikei pleaded guilty under Section 372B of the Penal Code.

The section provides for a jail sentence of not exceeding one year or with a fine or both if convicted.

According to the charge sheet, a police D7 team had at about 2.50pm on June 25, conducted a raid at a budget hotel in Jalan Channel.

Upon entering a room, they found the accused who was naked with a man.

Both had had sexual intercourse where the man paid the accused RM50.

The police seized a used condom, a packet of unused condom and RM50 from the accused.

The man being the witness for the case, was brought to the police station for investigation.
