Elderly man killed in Melaka fire


MELAKA: An elderly hearse owner was killed in a fire that razed his double-storey shoplot at Jalan Bunga Raya here.

The victim was identified as Loh Yock Sit, 77, and was believed to have been trapped inside his bathroom when the fire broke out at 5.45am on Wednesday (June 29).

Melaka Tengah Fire and Rescue Department chief Supt Yazid Mohd Tahir said 26 firefighters from three local stations were involved in dousing the fire.

He said the fire was brought under control at 7.08am.

"We believe the victim was trapped in the bathroom when the fire started," he said.
