Skudai rep criticised over choice of attire at Johor assembly

ISKANDAR PUTERI: A state executive councillor has reprimanded Skudai assemblyman Marina Ibrahim over the choice of attire.

Johor youth, sports, entrepreneur development, cooperatives and human resources committee chairman Mohd Hairi Mad Shah said it went against the House rules.

The 33-year-old first time DAP assemblyman was singled out by the exco member while giving her debate during the state assembly meeting at Bangunan Sultan Ismail here on Tuesday (June 21).

“He (Mohd Hairi) sounded me for not wearing a headscarf as according to the House rules, as a Muslim, I must wear it,” she said when contacted by the media here.

Mohd Hairi, who is the Larkin assemblyman, reprimanded Marina, citing the regulations on attire code for elected representatives at the Johor assembly.

Deputy Speaker Datuk Samsolbari Jamali then read out the attire code for elected representatives at the august House.

He said female elected representatives must wear baju kurung Johor if they were Muslims and should wear a headscarf or cover their head with a shawl.

“However, as this is the first time that the Skudai rep is present in the august House, I shall let the matter go. Please take this as an advice,” he said in his ruling Tuesday (June 21).
