Penang exco member Jagdeep assaulted by foreigner

GEORGE TOWN: A Penang executive councillor suffered a broken left ankle after he was shoved to the ground by a Caucasian at a restaurant in Tanjung Bungah here.

Jagdeep Singh Deo (pic), who is the state local government, housing, town and country planning committee chairman, is now warded at a private hospital.

Police have since obtained a two-day remand order against the suspect, who is believed to be intoxicated, during the incident on Thursday.

Initial investigations show that Jagdeep, 51, was at the outlet with his family when the suspect confronted and pushed him, causing him to fall and injure his left ankle.

Jagdeep’s two sons immediately rushed to their father’s aid but they were pushed away by the suspect as well, who then fled the scene in a car.

When contacted, state police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain confirmed that a suspect had been arrested over the incident.

He said the case would be investigated under Section 325 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt.
