Chef suffers burns in KK restaurant kitchen fire


KOTA KINABALU: A chef suffered burns on his face and arms when he was cooking on a gas stove in a restaurant here on Tuesday (June 14).

The 27-year-old, identified as Aswin Ahmad, managed to get away from the stove before the situation got worse.

Sabah Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations said they received a report about the fire at the restaurant in Harbour City near here at 4.19pm.

"Our team reached the scene and found about 30% of the kitchen was burnt.

"We managed to extinguish the fire and prevent it from destroying the area further," he said.

He said Aswin was given preliminary treatment by medical officials at the scene before he was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Misran the operations ceased at 4.48pm.

No other injuries were reported.
