SHAH ALAM: The family of P. Puvaaneshwaran is still coming to terms with the circumstances of how he died following a head-on collision along the New Klang Valley Expressway.
Police investigations revealed that the Proton Wira Aeroback Puvaaneshwaran was driving was travelling against the flow of traffic before it rammed into a Proton Wira sedan near the Subang exit early yesterday morning.
When met at the Shah Alam Hospital mortuary, his uncle, who only wanted to be known as Nadarajan, 55, said they were notified about his death at around 10am.
“We immediately rushed to the Shah Alam Hospital. We are all still in shock,” he told reporters.
He said Puvaaneshwaran had just started working for a company at Mid Valley and lived in Kuchai Lama.
“I really do not know what he was doing so far away from home.
“The police inspector told us that they have CCTV footage of him driving against traffic,” he said, adding that his nephew was responsible and well-behaved.
Meanwhile, Dhashen, a cousin, said Puvaaneshwaran was a straight-A student and never got into trouble.
“He had previously received awards for doing well in his exams. It’s hard to come to terms with his death,” the 26-year-old said.
Three other people also died in the accident. They are Lai Mun Fai, 28; Eng Siew Hooi, 31; and Leong Man Yuen, 27.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis said the incident occurred at around 4.11am.
“We received a distress call and dispatched a fire engine, emergency medical rescue services vehicle and nine personnel from the Kota Anggerik fire station to the scene.
“They arrived at the scene and found that there was an accident between two Proton cars,” he said yesterday.
Norazam said five people were involved in the accident where rescue personnel had to extricate the bodies from two mangled vehicles.
Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said initial investigations revealed that a Proton Wira Aeroback driven by a 28-year-old male was going against traffic from Klang towards Kuala Lumpur.
“The vehicle hit a Proton Wira sedan, causing the drivers of both vehicles and two passengers in the sedan to die at the scene,” he said.
The injured victim from the sedan, Heng Chan Yee, 28, was rushed to the Sungai Buloh Hospital for treatment.
ACP Mohd Iqbal said the case was classified as causing death while driving recklessly under Section 41 of the Penal Code.
