Khir Toyo should 'go back' not make a comeback, says Jamal Yunos

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos has taken a swipe at his potential rival for the Sungai Besar Umno division chief post, Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo.

"I would not want to comment on this further but would like to make a statement that (Mohamad Khir) need not 'comeback' but should just go back," Sinar Harian quoted the Sungai Besar Umno division chief as saying in a press conference after a visit to the Sungai Besar public market on Sunday (June 5).

He said the division's leadership was not looking for a candidate but was instead focused on ensuring that the election machinery is running smoothly for a win in GE15.

He said that as a party member, he would leave it to the party leadership to pick the candidate to contest.

"I have activated the party machinery as directed by Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi during the 48th Barisan convention and anniversary celebrations recently," he added.

Jamal said he had asked 300 Wanita Umno members to brief them on their activities.

"I am giving a stern warning to all Umno members, including those with positions – do not try to split party unity." he said.

It was reported on May 29 that Mohamad Khir had expressed his intention to stand as a Barisan candidate in Sungai Besar in GE15.

He said this was to wrest the seat from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, which won it in GE14.
