KUALA LUMPUR: A stable government of loyal Barisan Nasional partners will bring prosperity not only to the nation but also to the Asean region, says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
The Umno vice-president said that with him being the Prime Minister, the coalition could continue to fight for and protect the people’s interest.
“This country needs stability, the coalition needs loyalty and the people need defending,” he said at Barisan’s 48th anniversary and convention here yesterday.
Barisan, he said, must commit to winning a two-thirds majority in the next general election in order to continue with its agenda to help the people and nation prosper.
“A strong Barisan government will create political stability and contribute towards economic prosperity in the Asean region too,” he added.
Ismail Sabri said Barisan must be well prepared to face the 15th general election (GE15) and called for all members to adopt a first-class work culture that emphasises teamwork, discipline and loyalty.
“Loyal leaders and members of Barisan are those who are with us during good times and also stay by our side no matter how high the waves (of challenges) hit us.
“Those who are present in the hall today have had their loyalty tested, but they did not budge even an inch despite facing threats, pressure and being enticed with tempting offers.
“Let us strengthen cooperation and stay away from those who continuously try to break us apart,” he said.
He also thanked component parties for their support for him as the “poster boy” or prime minister candidate in GE15.
“It is a heavy responsibility,” he said.
On government matters, Ismail Sabri said policies will be adjusted to address concerns over the rising cost of goods, value of the ringgit and national economic recovery.
He said the government will take proactive measures, adding that it had taken the drastic step of abolishing approved permits (APs) for the import of food products to address food shortage in the market.
He also noted that the National Farmers Organisation (Nafas) has been given the responsibility to lead the initiative to look into the problem of middlemen.
“To ensure enough supply of food sources for the needs of Keluarga Malaysia, the government has also introduced the National Food Security Action Plan 2021-2025,” he added.
