VERDICT:

TRUE

Construction workers stumbled upon the 40mm mortar shell while building a drain along Jalan Taman Pusat Kepong here.

Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Beh Eng Lai said the discovery was made at around 12.30pm on Monday (May 30).

"We received a distress call from workers and dispatched a team from the City Bomb Disposal Unit to the scene," said ACP Beh.

He added that an officer from the Unit confirmed that the bomb was a 40mm Mortar Practice shell.

"Checks revealed the shell was no longer active and did not pose any danger," he said in a statement on Monday.

"The shell was commonly used in military exercises. The shell was taken to the Kuala Lumpur Armoury Division for further action," he added, urging the public to refrain from speculating on the case and causing public anxiety.
