KOTA KINABALU: Police have arrested a man, believed to be mentally disturbed, who was seen in two viral videos endangering his own safety as well as that of others.

Semporna OCPD Supt Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said they initially received a complaint involving a man in his 30s behaving aggressively and hurling stones at cars plying the Jalan Sungai Sipit Semporna-Kunak route at 4.50pm on Wednesday (May 25).

He said his men then rushed to the scene and found the man lying on the road with head injuries and sent him to the district hospital for treatment.

"It turns out he is the same person shown in a viral video clinging precariously to a moving lorry on Jalan Semporna-Kunak," he said in a statement on Thursday (May 26).

The man is seen in the one-minute, 31-second video swinging dangerously from one part of the lorry to another.

Supt Mohd Farhan said the man was also seen in another 22-second clip showing him standing in the middle of the road and harassing motorists.

"The suspect has been detained under Section 8(1)(e) of the Minor Offences Ordinance (Sabah cap. 80).

"He will also be sent for evaluation at the psychiatric hospital in Semporna," he said, adding the man has been remanded until Sunday (May 29) for further investigations.
