Hew's passing a great loss to the country, says Dr Wee

PETALING JAYA: The passing of Tan Sri Hew See Tong is a great loss to the country and the MCA, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The MCA president extended his heartfelt condolences to Hew's family over the loss of the former Kampar MP.

Hew had passed away due to complications resulting from pneumonitis at a private hospital at about 6am on Sunday (May 22). He was 91.

In a Facebook post, the Transport Minister described Hew as a former tin miner, developer, educator, and a well-known philanthropist.

"He was known to have started Bandar Baru Kampar and also donated a piece of land for the setting up of Tunku Abdul Rahman College's third campus in Kampar.

"As a former MCA MP, Hew had been a mentor to many younger leaders and I would like to express my sincere gratitude to him for his dedication and contributions to the country and the party.

"May he rest in peace," Dr Wee said.
