Most evacuees return home as Sipitang flood situation improves

KOTA KINABALU: The flood situation in Sipitang district is improving, with only one victim still remaining at the Dewan Mesapol relief centre on Saturday (May 21).

Prior to that, district Fire and Rescue Department personnel had evacuated families from affected villages namely Kampung Ranau-Ranau (two victims), Kg Tanjung Nipis (seven), Kg Pantai (eight), Kg Kaban (two) and Kg Skim Sindumin (seven) from 9.50pm on Friday (May 20) until the early hours on Saturday.

They were temporarily placed at the hall before returning home or leaving for their relatives’ homes.

Heavy rains from Friday evening caused water level to rise at Mengalong River and Lukutan River, inundating nearby villages.
