Lorry driver killed by falling tree in JB

JOHOR BARU: A lorry driver was killed after a tree fell on his vehicle at the Desa Plentong industrial area here.

Johor Jaya Fire and Rescue Department chief Saiful Bahri Safar said they received a call about the incident on Jalan Sri Wangi 1/5, Desa Plentong industrial area at 2.52pm on Friday (May 20).

"Eleven firemen and two fire engines were deployed to the scene after receiving the emergency call.

"Upon arrival, we saw that a three-tonne lorry had been crushed by a 6.1m tree.

"A man in his 40s was stuck in the driver's seat of the lorry. We managed to extricate the victim from the vehicle using a chainsaw and rescue tools.

"The body was referred to Health Department officers at the scene, who confirmed the victim's death," he said in a statement.

He added that the victim's body has been handed over to the police for further investigation, including a post-mortem.
