Former guard among four nabbed for Putrajaya cable theft

PUTRAJAYA: A former security guard is among four people arrested over electric cable theft at Alamanda Putrajaya here.

Putrajaya OCPD Asst Comm A. Asmadi Abdul Aziz said the suspects, aged between 23 and 31 years old, were arrested in Dengkil on May 12 and 13.

"The group used a rented car to carry out their illicit activities.

"Once they steal the cables, they would sell it to a scrapyard," he told reporters on Wednesday (May 18).

He said checks revealed one of the suspects was the son of the scrapyard operator.

"We seized a car, a motorcycle, a sling bag, gloves, grounding cables, a metal rod and tools used for cable theft.

"Three of the suspects tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine," he said, adding that the three had prior drug records.

He said the case has been classified as theft under Section 379 of the Penal Code.

ACP A. Asmadi warned the public against committing crimes.

"We will not hesitate from taking stern action against anyone caught intentionally breaking the law," he said.

Those with information on similar activities should contact the police hotline at 03-2115 9999 or the nearest police station.
