Thunderstorms, heavy rain to hit several states

KUALA LUMPUR: Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are expected in several states from Monday (May 16) until 4pm Tuesday (May 17).

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said among the states and territories that will be affected are Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Negri Sembilan and Melaka.

"In Perak, the areas are Hulu Perak, Manjung, Kinta, Perak Tengah, Kampar, Bagan Datuk, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang and Muallim; while in Kelantan, the areas are Jeli, Machang, Pasir Puteh and Kuala Krai," the department said in a statement on Facebook.

Bad weather will also affect Terengganu (Besut and Setiu), Johor (Tangkak, Segamat, Muar, Batu Pahat and Kluang) and Sarawak (Belaga in Kapit, Bintulu, Subis in Miri).

The warning is issued when there are signs showing thunderstorms that will include rain intensity of more than 20mm/hour or more than an hour.
