Splashing good walk for everyone

GEORGE TOWN: The architectural sense of the new Esplanade walkway becomes appreciable when the tide is at its highest.

At one section of the walkway, it splits into two paths: one lower and one higher.

When the tide is at its highest, seawater will flow in through slits along the parapet and flood the lower walkway up to about 30cm, and this will be the time when young and old alike can slosh along just for the fun of it.

Visitors to the Esplanade who happened to arrive when the tide was highest on Sunday (May 15) afternoon were delighted to be among the first to enjoy this.

"The sea here is so clean and clear," said Penangite Law Suun Ting in wonder.

Law took his family to enjoy the new Esplanade and did not expect to give his young kids the experience.

"My daughter even saw a little fish swim by as she walked through the seawater," he smiled.
