PETALING JAYA: The International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) needs to create effective measures to ensure the sustainability of the aviation industry, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The Transport Minister said rising fuel prices due to macro factors and conflicts remain a big challenge for civil aviation.

"I discussed the difficulties that the aviation industry and its related industry players continue to face even after the pandemic has entered the period of transition to an endemic phase and economic revival," said Dr Wee.

He said this in a Facebook post on Monday (May 9) after a bilateral meeting with Tunisia Transport Minister H.E. Rabie Majidi on the sidelines of the Future Aviation Forum in Riyadh.

Dr Wee said Tunisia is a current ICAO council member but will not seek re-election as the regional grouping it belongs to adopts a rotation system among its member states.

"I have sought Tunisia's support for the upcoming election to be held in Montreal in September this year to get Malaysia re-elected to our Part 3 council seat," added Dr Wee.
