Immigration Dept warns of another document scam in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: There is another scam relating to documentation in Sabah and the public, especially immigrants, are urged to not fall for it.

Sabah Immigration Department director Sitti Saleha Habib Yussof said it was learned that scammers were said to be selling a type of document, supposedly issued by the department, at the end of last year.

The document titled "Arahan Pembayaran Permit Masuk KDN" (Home Ministry order for entry permit payment) was said to have been issued by a syndicate, she said.

She said the Immigration Department has never issued such letters, nor had it issued any such instructions.

Sitti Saleha urged the public to deal directly with Immigration officials at the department's office if they have documentation problems or issues to ask about.

They can also file complaints on any related matters via http://imi.spab.gov.my.bagi, she said, warning the people not to fall prey to such scams.

“We are calling on all Malaysians to work with us and other enforcement agencies to report any wrongdoings relating to documentation to curb the activities of such syndicates,” she added.

It is unclear what these payments or documents are for, specifically.

Recently, there was another suspected documentation scam in which fake special identification cards were sold to unsuspecting foreigners in Sabah.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Idris Abdullah had said they recently received information on this matter, and action was taken in response.
