Teen jumps out of moving car after allegedly molested, robbed by e-hailing driver

KOTA KINABALU: A teenager was forced to jump out of a moving car after the e-hailing driver allegedly molested and robbed her near Jalan Kionsom Inanam near here Thursday (March 31) morning.

The 19-year-old salesperson had gotten into a dark blue car before 9am as she had called for an e-hailing ride to travel to work in Menggatal near Inanam.

The incident was earlier made known and circulated on various social media platforms.

Kota Kinabalu deputy OCPD Supt George Rakman said the driver had told the victim that he had to detour using a shortcut as the main route was congested.

“As they neared the Kionsom waterfall area, the driver allegedly asked the girl to switch to the front passenger seat as she was seated behind,” he said in a statement.

The driver was said to have groped her thighs after that, and the girl warned him not to do it again.

The driver then allegedly took out a small knife from his pouch and asked that the victim hand over her money.

She then jumped out of the moving car and fled on foot, said Supt George.

He said the girl sustained bodily injuries following her jump out of the vehicle.

She managed to call a friend for help and to fetch her, before they went to lodge a police report on the matter at 1.14pm.

Supt George said the initial probe found that the car had a number plate that was registered to another vehicle.

“A hunt is on for the suspect,” he said.

Those with information are urged to contact investigating officer Inspector Riduan Abd Majidat at 010-514 4059, or the nearest police station.
