Well-known singer nabbed for cultivating ganja in condo

PETALING JAYA: A well-known singer and composer has been arrested for cultivating ganja plants in his home in Kota Damansara here.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said they raided a condominium in Kota Damansara at around 5.30pm Thursday (March 24).

"Based on intelligence gathered, we raided the unit and arrested the 47-year-old suspect.

"We found a packet containing 214g of compressed dried leaves believed to be ganja," he told reporters on Friday (March 25).

He said upon further checks, police also found 17 ganja plants in the unit.

ACP Mohamad Fakhrudin said the dried leaves and plants were believed to be worth RM10,200.

"The suspect tested positive for tetrahydrocannabinol and has a history of drug involvement for at least 10 years.

"Investigations revealed the suspect was also involved in growing the plants for about two months.

"We have remanded the suspect for seven days to assist further investigations," he said, adding that police were investigating the source of the dried compressed leaves.

He said the suspect also claimed he cultivated the plants from seeds.

"We have classified the case under Section 39B and Section 6B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug trafficking and owning ganja plants, respectively," he said.
