Any Malaysian still stuck in Ukraine should contact embassy in Warsaw, says Saifuddin

JOHOR BARU: Malaysians who are still stranded in Ukraine have been urged to reach out to the Malaysian embassy in Warsaw, Poland for help.

Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah said that while those who have registered with the Malaysian embassy in Kyiv have been sent home safely, there may still be some who are still in Ukraine without the knowledge of the embassy.

"Our embassy in Kyiv, Ukraine is temporarily being suspended due to the conflict, while all Malaysian citizens, including officers from the embassy have returned safely.

"However, we also know that there might still be one or two Malaysians not registered with the embassy, who are still stuck in Ukraine.

"Our advice to them is to contact the nearest embassy, which is the Malaysian embassy in Warsaw, Poland for assistance," he said in a press conference at the Johor Baru City Council (MBJB) tower here on Thursday (March 3).

Asked if Wisma Putra had received any information about such cases, he said that they have yet to receive the information.

"Not to my knowledge. I mention this because we do not make it compulsory for our citizens in any country to register with the respective embassies.

"We know that there are not many Malaysians in Ukraine but if there are still one or two who are still in the country, do reach out, we will assist them," he said.

On Tuesday (March 1), nine Malaysians together with their two dependents safely reached Kuala Lumpur.

Thirteen Malaysians had left Ukraine between Feb 14 and 24 on the advice of the Malaysian embassy in Kyiv.
