ISKANDAR PUTERI: Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) will be contesting only one seat in the Johor polls and has picked a film director to represent them.

PSM has announced that 46-year-old Penang born R. Arangkanal will contest in the Kota Iskandar seat, which is already shaping-up to be a multi-cornered fight in the coming state election.

Its secretary-general A. Sivarajan said PSM was not a new political power in Johor, adding that their presence in the state is more than 15 years.

“Even though we are only contesting in the Kota Iskandar seat, PSM feels that we can bring a different political narrative compared to other political parties that will be contesting in the state election.

“Our candidate, Arangkanal, is a film director who directed many internationally acclaimed social films and has served with PSM in Kota Iskandar for more than two years,” he added.

Sivarajan said this in his speech when announcing the party’s candidate at Kangkar Pulai here on Monday (Feb 21) night.

The Election Commission has set nomination day on Feb 26 while early voting and polling day are on March 8 and March 12 respectively.
