Former top drug buster claims trial for four counts of bribery

MELAKA: A former top drug buster claimed trial at the Sessions Court here to four counts of accepting bribes as an inducement to approve maintenance projects between 2017 and 2019.

Mohamad Yusof Kameh, 55, who was the former director of the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) made his plea before Judge Elesabet Paya Wan on Friday (Feb 18).

Based on the four charges, the accused who was then the director of AADK had allegedly received bribes totalling RM5,900 to approve the projects amounting to RM31,629,00 between Nov 24, 2017 and March 19, 2019.

He had allegedly committed the offence at AADK by favouring an individual representing a company - Mutiara Event Management & Supplies.

All the charges were framed under Section 16 (a) (B) Malaysian Anti-Corruption Act (MACC) 2009 which carried a maximum jail term of up to 20 years and could be fined up to five times the value of bribe or RM10,000, whichever was higher if found guilty.

The accused who was unrepresented was offered a bail of RM5,000 with one surety and to report to MACC headquarters here every month until the end of his court proceeding.

The court also fixed March 16 as the next mention date.
