Cops nab foreign duo for operating online scam call centre

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested a foreign man and woman believed to be running an online scam call centre here after raiding a condominium unit at Medan Tuanku.

Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Noor Dellhan Yahaya said a police team raided the apartment unit at around 1.30pm on Tuesday (Feb 15).

"We arrested the man and woman, aged 36 and 42, respectively, and seized three mobile phones, a tablet device, an iPad, six central processing units and monitors, five keyboards and mice as well as five solid-state drives.

"The two have been remanded for three days as we determine the extent of their operation," he said in a statement on Wednesday (Feb 16).

He said the case has been classified as cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code.

"We are in the midst of our investigations to see if the syndicate targetted locals or foreign victims.

"Our investigators will be combing through the computers seized to see how many victims were duped," he said when contacted.

He said they believed the syndicate ran their operation out of an apartment unit to avoid suspicion.

"We advise building management as well as the public to come forward if they suspect such activities were occurring at their places of residence.

"Those with information can contact the City Police hotline at 03-2115 9999 or the Dang Wangi police hotline at 03-2600 2222," he said.
