MACC raids Mara Corp offices in KL

KUALA LUMPUR: Graft-busters have begun investigations into allegations of abuse of power and mismanagement at Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara)'s investment holding company Mara Corp.

It is learnt that Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) personnel have raided three offices in the city at Jalan Mara, Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman and Jalan Bukit Bintang.

The raids at Jalan Mara and Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman were conducted by four MACC officers each while the raid at Jalan Bukit Bintang involved three officers.

It is believed that the raids started at 10.30am on Monday (Feb 7), and prior to this it was reported that the MACC said it had received a report on the issue and would be launching the investigation by recording statements from several witnesses from Mara Corp.

"We take these allegations of possible mismanagement involving several senior officers in Mara seriously. The case will be investigated under Section 23(1) of the MACC Act 2009," it said in a statement on Saturday (Feb 5).

On Friday (Feb 4), Mara chairman Datuk Seri Azizah Mohd Dun said they have begun further investigations into Mara Corp to review relevant documents to ensure that the company's management is always based on good governance.

She said this follows the unauthorised dissemination of internal administrative documents to the public, which has evoked a negative perception of Mara and its related subsidiaries.

"If there is any misconduct in the governance of subsidiaries under this agency, Mara will never compromise or protect any individual involved on the principle of upholding the value of integrity in carrying out the trust given," she said.
