GEORGE TOWN: A man fell to his death from his 12th-floor apartment shortly before his wife's body was found with stab wounds in the couple's bedroom in Paya Terubong, here.
George Town deputy OCPD Supt V. Saravanan said police received a distress call at 7.38am on Friday (Feb 4) after the man's body was found on the ground floor of the apartment.
"We found the body of a 54-year-old man sprawled on the ground and his body was sent to the hospital for a post-mortem.
"Later at about noon, a woman arrived at the police station and reported that her daughter's unit on the 12th floor was locked and she could not access it," he said.
He said that when police later gained access to the unit, they discovered the body of a 46-year-old woman in a bedroom.
"Checks found stab wounds on her body, including one on her neck.
"Investigations revealed that the man who had fallen to his death, was the woman's husband.
"We suspect the couple had quarrelled prior to their deaths and the man stabbed her before his death," he told reporters at the scene.
Supt Saravanan added that no other signs of foul play were found as there was no sign of a break-in and the unit was locked from the inside.
He said a knife believed to have been used in the attack was found and their 18-year-old son who lives with the couple was not at home during the incident.
Investigations are ongoing and the post-mortem results are pending.
