Covid-19: Number of new cases spikes to 7,234

PETALING JAYA: New Covid-19 cases have increased by over 1,500 cases on Friday (Feb 4) with 7,234 cases reported.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the cumulative number of infections in the country was now 2,895,014.

"The number of recoveries reported on Friday was 5,254 cases bringing the cumulative total to 2,799,608.

"Of the new cases recorded on Friday, 234 were import cases involving 92 Malaysians and 142 foreigners," he said in a statement on Friday.

He said 118 cases were treated at intensive care units with 57 cases requiring ventilator support.

"Twenty-one new clusters were reported on Friday, bringing the number of active clusters to 346.

"Of the 7,234 new cases, 73 were category three, four and five while the remaining were category one and two," he said.

On the country's infectivity rate Dr Noor Hisham said the national R-nought rate stood at 1.11.

"All states except for Labuan recorded a value of over 1 with Perlis topping the charts at 1.25 followed by Johor (1.20), and Penang (1.17).

"Kelantan, Terengganu and Sarawak recorded a value of 1.04 respectively while Labuan recorded a zero infectivity rate," he said.
