IPOH: Two people have been arrested in connection with a fight in front of a restaurant near Station 18 here.
Perak police chief Comm Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said a video of the incident had gone viral and a police report was lodged on Thursday (Jan 27).
He said the fight was believed to have started after a man in a car was accused of stealing a handphone.
A car chase ensued before the man accused of the theft hit another car at the scene of the incident.
"After that a group of teenagers, believed to be food delivery riders, rioted using plastic chairs, bricks and plastic cones and the victim’s car was damaged.
"Investigations revealed that the fight was due to a misunderstanding, when the alleged handphone theft could not be proven," Comm Mior Faridalathrash said in a statement on Friday (Jan 28).
He said two suspects had been arrested, and the case would be investigated under Sections 148 and 427 of the Penal Code for rioting and committing mischief respectively.
He said the other individuals believed to be involved were being traced to help with the investigation.
"Those who have information on the incident are urged to come forward and report the matter.
"The public is urged to stop forwarding the video. If they have any information it should be channelled to Inspector Sahridin Saat at 011-6494 6477 or the nearest police station," he added.
