MELAKA: Suspected members of a notorious triad have been arrested after brazenly attending the opening ceremony of their headquarters in Bukit Piatu here.
Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit said eight members of the group, believed to be from its leadership, were detained on Tuesday (Jan 25).
They were aged between 20 and 40, he added.
According to ACP Christopher, 30 people, including two women, attended the event.
"We detained eight of them, believed to be hardcore members, for further investigation.
"The rest were issued compound notices totalling RM30,000 for violating standard operating procedures (SOP) during the National Recovery Plan," he said on Friday (Jan 28).
ACP Christopher said the eight had allegedly invited the other attendees to the opening of their headquarters.
He said police began monitoring their activities after word of the upcoming opening ceremony was spread on social media.
He added that the suspects are being investigated under Section 52 (3) of the Societies Act 1966.
