ALOR SETAR: Police detained a father and son and seized nearly 9kg of ganja worth about RM22,500 in a drug bust in Sungai Petani on Monday (Jan 24).

Kedah Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) chief Asst Comm Mohd Taufik Maidin said the 75-year-old senior citizen and his 57-year-old son were arrested in a parked car at about 2pm near Kampung Teluk by a team from the state police contingent headquarters.

"Inspection of the car found nine compressed blocks of drugs believed to be ganja wrapped in clear plastic and aluminum foil weighing 8,990g and worth about RM22,500," he said in a statement on Thursday (Jan 27).

ACP Mohd Taufik said a urine test conducted on the 75-year-old suspect was positive for THC while the son’s urine test came back negative.

He said police also seized RM1,012 in cash from the suspects during the raid.

He said both suspects have no criminal record and have been remanded for seven days until Jan 31.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
