JOHOR BARU: Police have detained two local men for driving under the influence of alcohol at Jalan Daya 1, Taman Setia Indah, near here.

Johor Baru South deputy OCPD Supt Lim Jit Huey said they were detained during Ops Mabuk, which started 11pm Tuesday (Jan 25) until 4am Wednesday (Jan 26).

He said the operation was led by Insp Haikal Kassim from the Johor Baru South Police District Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department, assisted by seven officers.

“Ops Mabuk is conducted to ensure motorists follow the traffic rules and regulations, and also to nab drunk drivers," Supt Lim said in a statement Wednesday.

He said 107 individuals and 83 vehicles were inspected during the operation, and 37 summonses were issued for various traffic offences.

He said from Jan 1 to Jan 26, 2022, 26 drivers between 18 and 65 years old were arrested for drunk driving.

Supt Lim said there were still drivers found driving under the influence despite daily operations conducted by the Johor Baru South district police headquarters.

He said those caught for DUI could be charged under Section 45A (1) of the Road Transport Act (Amendments) 2020.(ends)
