GEORGE TOWN: The resignation of former DAP strongman Danny Law Heng Kiang did not come as a surprise, says Chow Kon Yeow.
The Penang DAP chairman said speculation about Law quitting the party was rife among party members.
"I am not surprised at all. Rumours about his resignation have been circulated by some groups for some time," he said.
When asked whether Law had come to see him to discuss his intention, the Chief Minister said he (Law) did not.
He said among the reasons the former Batu Lanchang assemblyman decided to quit might be due to his unhappiness of not being selected as a candidate during the last general election or that he had lost during the party election.
"I can only speculate on the possible reasons," he said.
On Tuesday (Jan 18), state DAP secretary Lim Hui Ying announced that Law has quit DAP.
She said they received Law's resignation letter on the same day.
Law was best remembered as the "Lone Ranger" when he was the sole DAP rep in the state assembly after the 1999 general election.
He was state exco for tourism for two terms from 2008.
In 2018, he was dropped as a candidate in the general election.
