JOHOR BARU: Sedili assemblyman Rasman Ithnain (pic) from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) is claiming political conspiracy after a police report was lodged against him for alleged sexual harassment by his own party member.

He said that at around 2pm on Monday (Jan 17), he was told that a report was lodged against him by an individual who is a Kota Tinggi Bersatu Srikandi committee member.

“I deny the accusations made in the report, which is a political conspiracy, accusation and an attempt to bring down my dignity and tarnish my reputation as an elected representative.

“I would also like to stress that such political conspiracy will not weaken my spirit to fight and carry out my responsibility that has been entrusted to me through the people’s mandate,” he said in a statement Tuesday (Jan 18).

Rasman, who won the Sedili seat on an Umno ticket but jumped to Bersatu after the 14th General Election (GE14), added that he was willing to give his full cooperation throughout the investigation process to ensure justice prevails.

“I have also spoken to my lawyers to take legal action against any individuals who try to smear my name and image,” he said.

On Monday, a woman claimed that she was sexually harassed by a Johor assemblyman.

It is learnt that the woman, in her 20s, lodged a report at the police station here at around 11.30am Monday.

The victim, who is also believed to be a politician from Johor, alleged that the assemblyman had sexually harassed her more than once.

Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Hussin Zamora confirmed the case but declined to elaborate.
