PETALING JAYA: A 37-year-old man who was arrested for alleged drug offences has died in police custody on Sunday (Jan 16).
Bukit Aman Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS) director Comm Datuk Azri Ahmad said they were alerted to the death at around 4.35pm on Sunday.
"The death involved a 37-year-old man at the Pengkalan Chepa police station lock-up in Kota Baru, Kelantan.
"The deceased was arrested for offences under Section 12(2) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act," he said in a statement Monday (Jan 17).
He said the deceased was under a four-day remand order from Sunday.
"The remand order was obtained in Kota Baru.
"The JIPS Criminal Investigation Unit on Deaths in Custody will conduct an investigation into this case," he said.
