Civil servant charged for sexual assault on boy in govt office toilet

KOTA KINABALU: A 34-year-old civil servant was charged in Sessions Court here for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old boy at a toilet of a government office here.

Sharif Hardi Roman Sh. Miasin pleaded not guilty before Sessions Court Judge Azreena Aziz to the charge against him on Friday (Jan 14).

The court proceeding was held over Zoom.

Sharif is accused of committing the offence by performing oral sex on the 15-year-old boy at 4.40pm on Jan 4 this year at the VVIP toilet in the National Registration Department office building here.

The offence under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 provides for a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping, on conviction.

The court set Feb 17 this year for case management and released Sharif on bail of RM10,000 with two local sureties who had permanent addresses and jobs.

Sharif was also warned not to contact prosecution witnesses and to report to the nearest police station twice a month.

His passport was also impounded by the court until the disposal of his case.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Siti Hajar Mazlan appeared for the prosecution, while Sharif was not represented.
