Mum reunites with toddler she hasn’t met in 20 months, thanks to VTL

JOHOR BARU: A woman who was away from her family for over one year and eight months finally returned home and reunited with her family – including her toddler daughter who was still an infant when she left.

Facebook user Cheah Wen Jie posted a video of the happy reunion with his wife – whom he did not name – in the Singapore-Malaysia Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) Exchange Facebook group on Jan 10.

His wife, who was working in Singapore, had been away for 578 days and returned via the Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL).

The video starts with Cheah driving to the VTL pick-up point where he presents her with a bouquet of flowers.

The video then cuts to their house, where Cheah acts nonchalantly – before his wife steps into view at the front door.

Her elder daughter screams in delight at the sight of her mother and runs towards her with open arms and they embrace tightly.

The woman then approaches her younger daughter and hugs her – but the bemused girl does not show much emotion on meeting her mother again.

In the accompanying post, Cheah said it was thanks to the VTL that his wife was able to come home after such a long time.

“When she left for Singapore, our younger daughter was not even one year old,” Cheah wrote, referring to the part where she appeared cool on seeing her mother.

Further on in the video, Cheah’s wife is also seen hugging her mother – who had already burst into tears when she appeared.

The older woman is heard “admonishing” her daughter for not telling her she was returning home.

Later, the woman’s younger sister – who was also not aware of her return – walks into a bedroom where she was hiding and duly screams in surprise at the sight of her sibling.

Cheah’s daughters then run gleefully into the room where the two sisters are hugging and later catching up with each other.
