Syndicate member allegedly involved in falsifying vaccine certs nabbed in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: A suspected syndicate member believed to be involved in falsifying digital vaccination certificates has been nabbed here.

The 31-year-old man was arrested at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office here at about 1.30pm Tuesday (Jan 11).

According to sources, the suspect had asked for RM2,000 from a group of unvaccinated people and gave it to a volunteer stationed at one of the vaccination centres in the city.

The money was allegedly used to reward the volunteers on duty to help register unvaccinated people as "vaccinated" in the MySejahtera app in October last year.

The vaccinated status would then appear on the payers’ MySejahtera app.

Sabah MACC director Datuk S. Karunanithy confirmed the arrest and said that the suspect is being investigated under the MACC Act.

"A remand order will be applied from the Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday (Jan 12)," he said.

It was unclear if this case has anything to do with the ongoing investigations on unvaccinated umrah returnees in the peninsula currently.
