Senior MACC officers pledge support for Azam Baki as chief commissioner

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will support the leadership of Tan Sri Azam Baki (pic) as the chief commissioner.

“We represent the MACC and make our stand that we support the leadership of Tan Sri Azam Baki as our chief commissioner," said MACC deputy commissioner Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya, MACC deputy chief commissioner (Prevention) Datuk Norazlan Mohd Razali and MACC deputy chief commissioner (management and professionalism) Datuk Junipah Wandi in a joint statement on Sunday (Jan 9).

“We are of the view that the allegations and attacks made are motivated by the politics of revenge to tarnish the image and the credibility of the MACC," they added.

They also urged all parties to stop this crisis and let the legal process run in a fair, transparent and equitable manner.

“The MACC remains united in defending the institution of the chief commissioner and MACC for the sake of the continuation of corruption prevention in our beloved country,” they said.

Allegations have recently surfaced that Azam owned a substantial number of shares in Gets Global Bhd as well as Excel Force MSC Bhd between 2015 and 2016 when he was the MACC director of investigations.

Azam has maintained that he did not commit any wrongdoing, saying that his brother had borrowed his trading account to buy shares in the open market and financed the purchases on his own.
