Ibrahim Durum sworn in as Melaka assembly Speaker


MELAKA: Former executive council member Datuk Ibrahim Durum has been sworn in as the Melaka State Legislative Assembly speaker.

The motion to appoint Ibrahim was proposed by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali and seconded by youth, sports and NGO development committee chairman VP Shanmugam at the first (special) meeting of the first term of the assembly on Monday (Dec 27).

The motion received votes of support from 15 assemblymen, with five abstaining and eight others absent.

Rim assemblyman Datuk Khaidirah Abu Zahar was appointed Deputy Speaker, the first woman to hold the post in the state.

The meeting also saw the 20 assemblymen present taking their oath of office. – Bernama
