SHAH ALAM: A total of 54,532 flood victims have been placed at 334 temporary relief centres (PPS) in several states, says Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani.
The Inspector-General of Police said as of 4am on Saturday (Dec 25), Pahang remained the worst hit with 29,108 victims, followed by Selangor with 23,702 victims.
"A total of 46 victims were killed in the floods. Selangor recorded 25 deaths, followed by Pahang with 18 deaths and Kelantan with three," said Acryl Sani.
"Five victims are still reported missing," he told a press conference at the Taman Sri Muda flood operation centre on Saturday (Dec 25).
The Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) is also monitoring nine rivers in Pahang, where two are at a caution level, four at a warning level and three are classified as being at a dangerous level, he added.
"In Selangor, three rivers are classified at a caution level while one is at a warning level while in Kelantan, two rivers are at a warning level," he said.
The country's top cop said 94 CID teams consisting of 377 police officers and personnel have been deployed nationwide to curb and prevent theft and looting in flooded areas.
"We are investigating 10 cases of break-ins and looting at premises and five vehicle thefts between Dec 17 and Friday (Dec 24)," he said.
So far, 68 roads remained closed due to the floods, said Acryl Sani.
"A total of 46 roads are closed in Pahang, 14 roads in Selangor, five in Negri Sembilan and three in Kelantan," he said.
On alleged incidents of flood victims breaking into other people's houses for shelter, Acryl Sani said if such incidents did occur, the police will investigate based on the police reports lodged.
