Floods: 242 evacuated from two districts in Perak

IPOH: A total of 242 people have been evacuated to safer ground in two Perak districts after floods hit their villages.

The addected villagers, from 11 different villages in Hilir Perak and Muallim, have been staying at relief centres since Sunday (Dec 19).

A Perak Disaster Management Committee secretariat spokesman said in Hilir Perak, relief centres were opened are at SMK Abdul Rahman Talib’s school hall and at the Teluk Intan City Hall, while in the Muallim district, the centre is located at SK Kuala Slim.

The spokesman said intense rain over the past few days led to overflow of water from Sungai Bidor in Hilir Perak, as well as Sungai Bernam, Sungai Slim and Sungai Trolak in Muallim.

As of 9am Monday, the villagers were still staying at the shelters.
