PETALING JAYA: Some 100 residents of Taman Sri Nanding in Hulu Langat were stranded due to the flood, forcing them to find shelter on the roof of the Surau Al Munir Taman Sri Nanding for over 12 hours.
Resident Puteri Nadia Natasha Mohamed Ramzan, 24, said she was informed of the incident by a friend who had been on the roof since Saturday (Dec 18) night.
Sinar Harian reported that the residents had to climb up onto the roof of the surau due to the rising water levels despite the cold from the rain.
"I was among the residents who managed to escape the disaster zone.
"However, some of my friends could not escape in time, and had to take shelter on the roof while awaiting rescue," she told the Malay daily.
Sinar Harian also noted that among those stranded on the surau include babies, pregnant women, elderly and those with chronic illnesses.
"Most of the houses here are submerged, as the water from Sungai Pangsun spilled over into the residential area," she was reported saying, adding that many suffered losses due to the incident.
Puteri also told the daily that the residents were getting assistance from the Civil Defence Forces (APM) to be transferred to the relief centre (PPS) in Surau Taman Perkasa.
The daily noted that as of 10am, the transfer process is still ongoing.
