KUALA LUMPUR: New Covid-19 cases reported in the country went up slightly to 4,362 cases on Friday (Dec 17), compared to 4,262 on Thursday (Dec 16), bringing the cumulative total to 2,711,764 now.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 5,098 recoveries on Friday, bringing the total number of those who had recovered from Covid-19 to 2,625,245 individuals/
He added that of the new cases reported Friday, 4,334 were local transmissions while 28 more cases were imported.
"Some 89 cases, or 2%, were in categories three, four and five while 4,273 cases or 98% involved categories one and two,” he said in a statement Friday.
Categories one and two refer to Covid-19 patients with no or mild symptoms while categories three, four and five are patients with lung infections, requiring oxygen aid and respiratory assistance.
Dr Noor Hisham also said 400 cases were being treated at intensive care units (ICUs) with 198 of them on ventilators.
He said 12 new clusters were detected on Friday and the total active clusters now stood at 257 while Malaysia's Rt (infectivity rate) was down to 0.90, as of Thursday.
He added that the detailed Rt as of Thursday according to states showed Negeri Sembilan with the highest reading at 1.02, followed by Pahang and Penang at 1.00 each. - Bernama
