Illicit liquor processing ring busted with RM3.5mil worth of seizures

MUAR: Cops smashed an illegal liquor processing operation with seizures worth RM3.5mil after raiding three premises here.

The General Operations Force (GOF) arrested two men, both 29, during the raid under Ops Kontraban around 11am on Wednesday (Dec 8).

GOF Battalion 5 commanding officer Supt Dimin Awang said the two men had converted the premises into illegal distilleries - located in Bukit Treh, Parit Kadir Darat near Bukit Pasir and Parit Jamil in Parit Jawa - where GOF members found and seized thousands of litres of illicit alcohol beverages and ingredients.

"We seized closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras apart from 10 vehicles including multipurpose vehicles (MPV), five lorries and a fortlift.

"The total value of the various liquors seized is at RM1.2mil while the total value of all seizures including the vehicles is at RM3.5mil," he said on Thursday (Dec 9).

Supt Dimin said the case was being investigated under Section 135 (1) of the Customs Act 1967 and Section 75 of the Excise Act 1976 (offence of making, processing liquor and possessing liquor making equipment).

He urged the public to continue to channel information to GOF in curbing the presence of contraband goods and the entry of undocumented immigrants using ungazetted roads through its hotline at 07-755 7280.
