KJ: Omicron was already here


PETALING JAYA: The first case of the Covid-19 variant Omicron was detected in Malaysia on Nov 19, earlier than the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) announcement of the variant of concern on Nov 24.

Following the WHO announcement, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said the Institute for Medical Research (IMR) began conducting PCR Genotyping Assay testing on all positive Covid-19 samples screened at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) as an additional initiative to the whole genome sequencing analysis.
